Sometimes timeless, sometimes dizzying and frenetic, Marc Mellits’ music skilfully combines pure and diaphanous textures with highly pulsating sequences. Following in the footsteps of American repetitive musicians such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass, the energy of his works sometimes flirts with rock. His three string quartets bear witness to this, and their titles are an invitation to travel and adventure in sound: Tapas, Prometheus and Waniyetu are finally brought together on record by the Debussy Quartet, the American composer’s accomplice, for a world premiere on the Evidence Classics label.
Recorded by Little Tribeca at the Crypte de Lagorce (Ardèche) from November 7 to 10, 2016.
Total duration : 55′
